Just in time for the holiday season, here is the new and improved version of our “Detroiter” box! We are proud to say that the city of Detroit now has its own box of chocolate to enjoy…you almost have to wonder what took so long? The box comes in two different versions containing 8 ounces (16 pieces) of chocolate. You can get your very own “Detroiter” with or without a 4″ x 4″ Pewabic Old Detroit Tile. Thanks again to the creative staff at Pewabic Tile Detroit for doing the artwork for the lid and working with us every step of the way.
We run a pretty tight ship over here at DC, but sometimes we have something so cool that we have to share it. As of this morning, we are in the process of finalizing a very cool update to our “Detroiter” box…just in time for the fourth quarter. Don’t want to give away the whole secret just yet, so here is a clue (A very well known pottery organization in Detroit has teamed up with us to create our newest gift item). Will post again next week with the finished product, stay tuned!
Take a look for yourself…the Peanut “Better” Cup. We have been working on this project for some time now, and are happy to say that our Peanut “Better” Cups will be available for the first time this weekend. Made with all natural peanut butter from Michigan’s own Koeze Peanut Butter and sprinkled with sea salt, it doesn’t get any “Better”.
It’s that time of year again at Detroit Chocolat, Fall has officially begun and we are working hard on this year’s batch of delicious treats. Check out the Spooky Marshmallow Spider and Boo Cups pictured below…just a couple examples of our latest creations.
Tune in to AM 760 (WJR) this weekend to learn all about your favorite chocolate store and our approach to “making your life delicious”. Casey was entertaining as always and shared a lot about what makes Detroit Chocolat special. We will update this post once the podcast is made available online.
MICHIGAN BUSINESSES POWER “DETROIT CHOCOLAT”
Local ingredients help make Detroit “Grande”
Sterling Heights, Michigan – June 12, 2013
Detroit area suppliers and business partners continue to power Detroit Chocolat to make “Grande” products. On Tuesday, June 18, visitors are invited to become amateur Chocolatiers using ingredients from local sources to create their own custom Chocolat bars.

DC Press Release
Shurms Candy has solved an age old problem for those of us that love the flavor of caramel apples but can’t wait till the orchards open up. This soft and chewy product is a unique combination that is sure to satisfy your caramel apple cravings until the real deal is available in the fall. Yum!
Let’s face it, we can’t eat chocolate everyday. So when we need a break from snacking on our delicious Detroit Chocolat treats, popcorn is right there to pick up the slack. We have been looking all over Michigan for a gourmet popcorn supplier and stumbled upon The Popped Kernel. It didn’t take us long to decide that popcorn, nuts, chocolate, and caramel go really well together, and we added eight flavors to see how things go. The Popped Kernel is a Michigan small business worth supporting…”pop” in for a free sample sometime soon. As an added bonus, owners Mike and Geri will be part of our Supplier Showcase (6:30 to 8:00) next week on June 18th.
The June 18th “Grande Opening” event is coming together nicely, so we thought we would share a few details with you about the day. From 1 pm to 6 pm we will be serving up a whole bunch of offers you can’t refuse (for example)
- free chocolate straight out of the test kitchen (we have been mulling some pretty indulgent ideas around for a while now…you don’t want to miss an opportunity to try out some of the latest and greatest things we plan to add to our line in the future).
- “Make your own” Chocolat Bars. We have been doing this for a few years at DC, and it is a huge hit…there is no charge to make a Chocolat Bar, but we are taking donations to benefit Rising Stars Academy in Centerline. All money raised from the “make your own” Chocolat Bars will be donated.
- Soft drinks, water, and “Chocolat” inspired food will be available for all customers from 1 pm to 6 pm (or until everything runs out sometime after 6 pm).
- Last but not least, our supplier showcase event will take place from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. A handful of our very best suppliers and partner companies will be onsite to offer free samples of their product, talk directly with you about their business, and offer up some delicious ideas for your future snacking needs.
Seriously, what’s not to love here? Free chocolate and some good times in your favorite place to “make your life delicious”. See you on the 18th!
We were huge fans of Pewabic Tile (founded in Detroit in 1903) long before we opened Detroit Chocolat. They embody everything that makes Detroit such a rich culture and art destination. This week, we added Pewabic as an official supplier and DC now offers a variety of Detroit and Michigan themed tiles along with ceramic coffee mugs. We also happen to be working on a “Detroiter” project with our friends at Pewabic that will be available in early fall 2013…trust us, its pretty awesome!
Over a century since Pewabic was founded, we are proud to help carry on the tradition of revival and inspiration at Detroit Chocolat.
